Interior designing is mainly the art and science of understanding human behaviour, using that knowledge to create a functional, responsive living space in a building.
Where as Interior Decoration is the art of using beautiful adorning, furnishings, materials to create a beautiful, appealing living space.
In short, the designer understands each clients life style, behaviour, and peculiarities beyond the physical impression and uses that knowledge to creates a space that supports, improves and fits his/her life style, where as the decorator takes up a space and makes it very beautiful using the materials at her/his disposal.
To a designer, each brief, is a voyage of discovery, an opportunity to study, get into the life of the client, understanding her/him and creating a space that supports the life style, whereas to the Decorator the same brief is as an opportunity to impress, wow and take away the breath of the client, using impressing schemes.
The designer peers into the heart and soul of the brief. Her main concern is utility, purpose and convenience of the client. Her work may not be so beautiful to the unlearned eye ( though I hardly see them create anything not beautiful) but to the client, her/his life is better off with it.
The perspectives of the designer and decorator differs in many respect, but in the end, the both tries their best to make a happy client, giving the best of their expertise, passion and resources to the brief at hand.
It is widely said, every interior designer is a decorator, where as its not all decorator that is a designer.
As we get on, you will see beauty born, reborn, defined and redefined before your beautiful face.
Before I sign off, let me say on a personal note, that both professionals (interior designer and Interior decorator decorator) are experts and do amazing work in their own rights. sometimes it takes the probing heart of the decorator to make a great designer and vice versa.
Be happy, Smile at the slightest chance and live life to the fullest.
its all good.
